What Is ORGB 9-Color DTF Printing?

What does “expanded gamut” mean? A color gamut is the total range of colors a printing system can reproduce. Standard CMYK has a limited gamut, which means there are certain colors it simply cannot reproduce cleanly no matter how much you adjust the file or tweak the settings. Expanded gamut printing adds extra ink channels beyond CMYK to help cover those harder-to-hit colors. The gamut expands — that’s where the name comes from. In ORGB, those extra channels are Orange, Red, Green, and Blue, which are some of the colors standard CMYK struggles with most.

ORGB 9-color DTF uses nine ink channels in total: standard CMYK (4), expanded gamut inks — Orange, Red, Green, and Blue (4) — plus a white underbase (1). The white underbase prints first and creates an opaque base on any fabric color, allowing the inks above it to show at full intensity. That helps deliver a more vivid result on dark garments as well as light ones.

Standard 4-color DTF works well for most designs. But highly saturated reds can shift darker, bright oranges can lose intensity, and deep greens can lean in the wrong direction because CMYK is mixing toward those colors instead of printing them through a dedicated channel. ORGB helps reproduce those colors more directly rather than relying only on approximation.

Pre-Press

Position the transfer print-side down. Press at 300°F (149°C) for 10–12 seconds with medium firm pressure.

Cool completely

Remove from the press and let the transfer cool completely — do not peel while warm. The film must be fully cool before peeling.

Peel

Once fully cool, peel the film slowly from a corner at a low angle.

Final press — 10 seconds

Cover the design with parchment or Teflon paper and press again for 10 seconds. This is the most important finishing step — it seals the transfer and significantly improves adhesion to the fabric.
